This is my second cobalt chrome ring and I’ve had this one for about 2 months. The first ring had more of a full dome and was an ellipse in cross section. I liked that shape except that the ring was taller off of my finger and would jam into my pinky and middle finger sometimes. This band is a little narrower (I measure 2.01 mm or 0.079" thick) but has a slight corner between the outside and the side and the inside and the side. I got used to it quickly enough. With the comfort fit curve on the inside the ring is indeed comfortable.I did a bunch of research on ring materials and went with cobalt chrome for a number of reasons.1) The first is that I didn’t want an expensive ring.2) I wanted the color of white gold. Cobalt chrome is very comparable to the color of white gold and only a little lighter than platinum. Keep in mind that white gold looks the way it does because its rhodium plated and as the plating comes off the ring turns more yellow. To keep that silver color the ring has to be replated yearly.3) I wanted a scratch resistant material. That eliminates the precious metals. Cobalt chrome is fairly scratch resistant. Tungsten is more scratch resistant than cobalt chrome but it is a dark shade of gray and not shatterproof. Titanium is more easily scratched than cobalt chrome.4) I wanted it to be shatterproof. Tungsten can shatter if dropped on a hard surface.5) I wanted a moderate weight. Cobalt chrome is similar in weight to gold. Titanium is very light and tungsten is heavy. As an added benefit, unlike titanium and tungsten, cobalt chrome can be resized. It’s also hypoallergenic as long as it doesn’t include nickel.Overall I’ve been happy with this ring. It does have some very light scratches but not too bad. I think this ring may be a little less scratch resistant than my last cobalt chrome band but still not bad (I took off one star for this but I believe cobalt chrome can also be re-polished if needed). It’s also nice that this particular ring comes in quarter sizes which is not common in my experience. FYI, “Cobalt USA” is engraved on the inside.
